Brookfield Zoo covers 216 acres and includes 25 major animal exhibits. Animals live in innovative walk-through settings that re-create their natural habitats, with different species sharing space just as they do in the wild. The Living Coast's transparent water walls, squishy blue floor made to resemble the ocean floor and 60 animal species from the coast of Chile and Peru give the illusion of ocean depths. In Tropic World, primates and other mammals and birds live together in a rain forest environment (thunder rumbles regularly and rain showers down on the animals). There are dolphin shows daily for an extra fee. Many exhibits include hands-on activities to make the visit a genuine learning experience. The Children's Zoo features domestic animals and wildlife of North America as well as Animals in Action demonstrations. There are three restaurants and numerous concession stands throughout the zoo. Strollers are not allowed in the indoor exhibits.
Our family enjoys visiting the zoo and we try to go at least once a year. The grounds are well kept and there is so much to see and do! A great way to spend the day.
We live in the city but love going to Brookfield Zoo. It's a quick drive on the weekends or mid-day during the week. There's so much to see here that we tend to focus just on certain areas on our visits. It's a beautiful setting, and we love some of the outdoor areas like Habitat African and the new Great Bear Wilderness. I prefer to spend time seeing the animals, so I was a bit reluctant to check out the indoor Hamill Family Play Zoo. However, my 2 year old daughter had so much fun with the different hands on activities, I could barely get her to leave. Overall, we love this zoo and if it weren't for mid-day naptime, we could easily spend all day here.
We live near midway so the trip there isnt as bad as going to the other zoo in downtown , there is plenty of parking. the zoo itself is very clean and neat the animals look healthy and happy to see visitors. Our favorite is the dolphin show. we try to go atleast 4 times a year.
We have been Brookfield Zoo members since 1998. The best value in the Chicagoland area as far as our family is concerned. It's open almost every day of the year and there is so much to do and see. We always manage to find something different that we didn't notice before. Brookfield Zoo is the one place we know all the kids enjoy visiting, even our teenager! Really a great way to spend time as a family and maybe even see something unique - like the handsome peacock that roams freely among the guests! 5 star review from this family!
Getting a membership here is well worth the money; it pays for itself within a few visits. The grounds are very spacious and the facilities are updated so there is something to do for every family. You can check out the animals in close-up settings or investigate the hands-on learning displays. It's a great environment for little children since there are many opportunities for excitement but there are also plenty of quiet outdoor and indoor areas to recharge and even let the little ones take a little nap. It's one of the few places that you can spend all day without spending money at every turn to keep the fun going. Plus, it's a great choice for days with unpredictable weather. And the huge wooden carousel is a must see!
