Open year-round, the family-friendly Mitchell Museum of the American Indian hosts permanent and temporary exhibits and programs of performing arts, lectures, and hands-on craft workshops -- including regular workshops for children -- illuminating the past and present cultures of North America's native peoples. The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian was founded in 1977, through a gift from John M. and Betty Seabury Mitchell of their collection of North American Indian objects. The museum's collection continues to grow and presently includes some 10,000 objects from prehistoric times to the present.
