Opened in 1930 as the first Planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum fuels the imagination of its visitors with all new exhibits like shoot for the Moon, state-of-the-art space simulations in the world's first StarRider Theater, while showcasing Adler's renowned collection of historical astronomy artifacts.
Great scientific experience for kids and parents to explore
After not having been here in years, I was suprised how much my kids (7 and 2) liked this. The recently opened Planet Explorers area was perfect for them and kept them entertained.
I don't remember a lot about the Adler from when I visited with my school as a child, but I do remember enjoying it and the dome experience. I recently visited with my own kids and husband and was a little disappointed. Perhaps it was "too scientific" for my 5-year-old and 7-year-old. However, they did enjoy the area specifically for kids, Young Explorers I think it was called, but that space was small and so we got done with it rather quickly. We bought tickets to Journey through Space and was greatly disappointed. $10 for a 20-minute show. My husband and I felt nauseous for the rest of the day. I think my kids would enjoy the Field Museum better.
