Join the Nature Museum for Curious by Nature LIVE! In each interactive 60 minute workshop, we'll explore unique nature and science topics. These workshops are designed with students 5-9 years old in mind, but curious kids of all ages are welcome!
Materials needed: only pencil and paper!
Bug Nature Walk | Wednesday, September 30| 4-5pm
Join educator Marjorie and entomologist Allen for a live workshop all about insects that climb, crawl, and fly! We'll observe, investigate and explore all the bugs we can find right in the Museum's backyard. Investigate alongside us and meet bugs along the way!
Bird Migration | Saturday, October 10| 10:30-11:30am
Join facilitators Airen and Jeanette as we learn about how scientists study the migration of birds using specimens from the Museum’s collections! Chicago is part of the great lakes fly-way and millions of birds fly through every spring and fall. We’ll investigate different birds and their strategies for surviving in fall and winter.
Fall Plants & Seeds | Wednesday, October 14| 4-5pm
Join us as we celebrate fall seasonal changes. We'll explore the plants and seeds in our savanna! Then, using real seed and plant specimens we’ll explore and investigate different seed dispersal methods.
Sensational Snakes, Part 2 | Saturday, October 24| 10:30-11:30am
Join us for an up close look at snakes from our living collections. We’ll learn about snake bodies, how snakes hunt and eat, and where they live. We'll ask questions and record our observations and ideas in a simple science notebook.
Amazing Amphibians | Wednesday, October 28 | 4-5pm
Join us for a live workshop all about amphibians! We'll observe some of the Museum’s amphibians including salamanders and toads. Use close observation to investigate where they live in the wild and what they eat. During the workshop, we’ll even observe a live amphibian feeding!
Time: Wednesdays 4-5pm; Saturdays 10:30-11:30am
Cost: $5 members; $10 non-members
Ages: Children 5-9
