This winter, Filament Theatre is offering Chicago families something wonderfully different—and deeply thoughtful.
From January 6–18, 2026, Filament premieres the North American production of RAIN: for babies and their carers, an internationally celebrated sensory theatre experience created especially for newborns through crawling babies and the adults who love them.
Presented at Filament’s Northwest Side home (4041 N. Milwaukee Ave.), RAIN invites families to slow down, breathe, and simply be together.
This is not a “sit still and watch” kind of show.
RAIN unfolds as a gentle, immersive installation where a trio of performers—using cello, voice, and movement—guide babies and caregivers through a peaceful world of sound, texture, and discovery.
Inspired by the beauty and generosity of rain, the experience encourages quiet curiosity and shared moments of connection during a time in life that is often busy, emotional, and exhausting.
Since first launching in 2013, RAIN has toured festivals and major performing arts centers across Australia and beyond, earning praise—and sell-out audiences—for its sensitive, baby-centered design.
Filament Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, Reji Simon, shares that the work perfectly reflects Filament’s mission: supporting families with young children by creating spaces that feel welcoming, inclusive, and human—especially during the often isolating post-partum months.
RAIN is carefully designed for babies by developmental stage (newborn to crawling), but the experience doesn’t have to end at the theater doors.
All attending families receive access to Glow, a digital companion that brings RAIN’s themes into everyday life with simple, creative prompts—think calming bath-time rituals, quiet reflections, or even a living-room baby dance party.
Tickets range from $15–$30, making this a meaningful and accessible winter outing for Chicago families with their very youngest explorers.
