Chicago Best Family-Friendly Fall Fun and Festivals for Kids

Harvest Fests and Fun

September 16
Harvest Day
Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 North Central Park Ave., Chicago
Take part in this celebration of urban pioneer living, featuring beekeeping demonstrations and honey tasting, live goats and chickens, composting demonstrations, kid's activities and lawn games, live music and much more. All ages. Noon - 4pm. Suggested $5 donation & members get in FREE!

September 16
Harvest Bonfire (Drop-in Program)
Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road, Schaumburg
Celebrate fall harvest time by taking a wagon ride through Spring Valley, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire and enjoying a lantern-lit tour of the historic barn and house. 6-8pm. Ages 2 and older. $7, children 3 years and younger are free.

September 23
Harvest Celebration
White (Willye B.) Park, 1610 W. Howard, Chicago
Celebrate the changing of the seasons at this annual autumn extravaganza with free fun and games for the family. Enjoy a day in the park by joining the community for fall festivities and refreshments. Harvest Celebration features FREE hayrides, pumpkins, treats and entertainment! Sponsored by Howard Street SSA #19 and Rogers Park Business Alliance. All ages. 1-4pm. FREE.

September 23-24
Farm Heritage & Harvest Festival
Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 East Peterson Road, Grayslake
Farm Heritage Tractors and Displays, Live Entertainment, Animals and Kids Activities, Sheep Herding, Pumpkin Carving Demo, Beer Garden, Fun Foods, Fall Plants & Decor Sale, Auction, Tractor Pulls, and more. All ages. Saturday 10am - 7pm, Sunday 10am - 5pm. Adults $10; kids ages 6-12 $5; 5 and under free.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

September 15 - October 30
Pumpkin Fest 2017
Bengston’s Pumpkin Farm, 13341 West 151st Street, Homer Glen
The fun includes a relaxing Tractor pulled Hayrack ride, Gemstone and Arrowhead Mining Sluice, pony rides, pumpkins of course, a completely animated Haunted Barn, a a Kids Village, pumpkin chucker, haunted barn, the "famous" action-packed Pig Races, twirling honey pot ride and a 90' Mega Fun Slide. September 21 - October 31
Fall Fun at the Lindberg Pumpkin Patch
The Lindberg Pumpkin Patch, 3178 Il. Route 173, Caledonia
Visit the pumpkin patch for Fall Fun that includes a barnyard petting zoo, the world's largest pumpkin, old-fashioned wagon rides (weekends only), a corn maze, a front-yard playground and more. All ages. 9am - dusk. Free admission, ticket prices vary per activity.

September 23 - October 29
Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze
Odyssey Fun Farm, 19111 S Oak Park Ave, Tinley Park
The Odyssey Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze is fun for all ages, built on a 110 acre real farm. Plus a 5 acre courtyard full of family friendly activities: Giant Pillow Bouncy, Petting Zoo, The Inflatable Kidz Zone, corn cannons, pig races, a cow train, Duck Races, corn box, hay rides and pony rides, a Zip Line and more. Pumpkinfest
Didier Farms, 16678 W. Aptakisic Rd., Lincolnshire
The fun includes the Animal Land Zoo, hayrides, gem mining, bird feeding, scarecrows, a corn maze, kiddie carousel, Burlap Bag slide, Strawberry Spin and more kids' rides and activities,. On weekend only, check out the new Silly String Asylum and Mobile Escape Room! See web site for tickets and pricing info. All ages. 9am - 6pm.

Oktoberfests

September 15-16
Berwyn's Oktoberfest
Windsor and Stanley Ave., Berwyn
This Oktoberfest's kick-off coincides with the original Munich Oktoberfest, which starts on September 16 this year. The event features live music, an international food court, carnival and amusement rides, family entertainment pavilion, and crafters and vendors. And for adults, the Beer Garden, which will feature special Oktoberfest seasonal selections among others. All ages. Fri 6-11pm, Sat noon - 11pm. FREE.

September 16
Oaktoberfest - Kids' Root Beer Garden
Downtown Oak Park, Marion Street between Lake Street & North Boulevard, Oak Park
This free two-day event offers a premier music lineup, Kids Root Beer Garden, craft beer, wine and ethnic food offerings from Oak Park restaurants. The Kids Root Beer Garden offers kids the chance to participate in artistic, educational and hands-on activities including zucchini races, ninja obstacle course, root beer floats and games sponsored by local organizations. All ages. 12-5PM. FREE.

September 23
Oak Brook Park District Oktoberfest
Central Park, 1500 Forest Gate Rd., Oak Brook
The Park District, combined with the Village and the Ronald McDonald House will feature a softball tournament, live music, food, and beer. Also at the event are Children’s activities (1-5pm), balloon artist, crafts, bounce house and more. All ages. 12-8pm. FREE.

September 29 - October 1
Oktoberfest Chicago
Lakeview, 1429 W Wellington Ave., Chicago
Oktoberfest Chicago at St. Alphonsus returns for its 17th year, with indoor and outdoor activities, including Fri-Sat craft beer tasting for adults, and a Saturday and Sunday afternoon "Kinderfest" for kids featuring family-friendly games and other activities. All ages. Friday: 5pm-10pm; Saturday: 11am-10pm; Sunday: 11am-7pm. Friday – $10.00; Saturday – $5.00, after 5pm changes to $10.00; Sunday – $5.00.

Fall Fun Festivals

September 16
16th Annual Homewood Fall Fest
Martin Ave. from Hickory to Ridge Road, Homewood
Kids activities at Homewood Fall Fest include a pumpkin patch for pumpkin decorating, face painting and more. The ever-popular Mr. D’s magic show amazes the crowd from 2 to 4 p.m. A petting zoo and pony rides are available from noon to 4 p.m. and the pumpkin patch is open for creative decorations from 4 to 6 p.m. This year the outdoor movie "Sing" begins at dusk (around 7:30 p.m.) Plus free horse-drawn wagon rides from 6 to 9 p.m. All ages. 11am - 10pm. FREE.

September 29 - October 29
Fall Fest
Lincoln Park Zoo, 2200 N. Cannon Dr., Chicago
Fridays - Sundays, plus Monday Oct 9. This free, family-friendly celebration features ticketed attractions throughout the zoo: a Ferris wheel, corn maze, hay mountain, fun slide, inflatable obstacle course and more. Fall Fest also includes animal chats, musical entertainment, a pumpkin patch with pumpkins for sale, pumpkin carvers, and fall-themed enrichment for the animals. All ages. During regular hours. Free admission, tickets for some events.

September 30
Cornucopia Fall Festival & Craft Fair
Eugene Field Park, 5100 N. Ridgeway Ave., Chicago
Eugene Field Park invites families to their Cornucopia Fall Festival and Art Fair. Enjoy live entertainment, hunt for the perfect pumpkin in the patch, get your animal fix in the petting zoo, jump around in the inflatables, get your faces painted, fill your bellies at one of the food trucks and shop for art from local artists. All ages. 10am-3pm. Activities range from $2-$5.

October 6-8
Great Highwood Pumpkin Festival
Downtown Highwood, 102 Highwood Ave., Highwood
The Great Highwood Pumpkin Fest will boast fan favorites including all you can carve pumpkins, Trick or Treating, Costume Contests, Pumpkin Parade, hay rides, pony rides, petting zoo, carnival rides, kids crafts, two stages jam packed with solid entertainment, food and beverage vendors galore and a Superhero 5K Pumpkin Run/Walk. As always, all lit jack-o-lanterns will be placed on pumpkin walls throughout the Festival grounds, with ceremonial wall lightings Friday and Saturday nights, and the grand lighting on Sunday evening. All ages. $2 per person.

October 8
Harvest Fest at Indian Boundary
Indian Boundary Park, 2500 W. Lunt Ave., Chicago
The Chicago Park District brings a little bit of the country to the city with its annual Pumpkin Patches. Pick your personal favorite from a field filled with pumpkins of all shapes, and personalize it at the pumpkin decorating station. Enjoy Halloween-themed carnival games, petting zoo, pony rides, and tattoos complete a day's worth of fall fun. Don't forget to bring a camera to capture a family memory at our harvest photo station. Free admission with fees for activities. All ages. 10am - 2pm.
